The 2022 Westhampton Beach boys varsity basketball team takes on the new season. Although the record for the boys last year was 7-9, this year they plan on advancing their game and making it to the playoffs.

The new coach, elementary school physical education teacher Mr. Davis, has stepped up to help the boys this upcoming season with hopes to better the team.

One of the captains, senior Quinn McCormack was named to Newsday’s High School Sports’ Top 100 Basketball Players on Long Island. Newsday wrote about Quinn, “McCormack is entering his second year as a varsity starter and serves as a great team leader. He averaged 13 points per game last season.”

We asked Quinn who their most underrated player this year is. He said, “ This season John Clark has definitely stepped up this season to help out the team.” Clark just moved here from Ithaca and is a junior..

Quinn shared which other underclassmen fans should look out for. He said, “Jordan Bennett. He has been on the team since last year and has made a positive impact of helping the boys and the team make it to the playoffs.”

According to Quinn, the goal this season for the team is to make it to the playoffs, since last year they didn’t achieve their goal of doing so.  So far, at press time, the boys have 3-6 record overall.  Junior Andrew Mensch lead the team with 19 points and four 3-pointers against North Shore on December 29th. Most recently, the team had a big 67-51 win over rival ESM on January 3rd.

The next home game is January 10th vs. Bayport Bluepoint.
