A Look at AP Psych

It’s about time to pick our classes for next year and AP Psychology is one of the many popular electives to choose from at WHB. Psychology is an academic and applied discipline that involves the scientific study of mental functions and behaviors.

The AP Psychology teacher started three years ago. The course is becoming more popular each year and AP Psych teacher, Mr. Davis, thinks this is because “students are very interested in learning about human behavior. We all want to know what makes people do the things that they do, from risking their lives to save a stranger to committing acts of senseless murder.”

Sophomore Sammy Tiska is an AP Psych student and loves it. She “thought it would be interesting and different than any other class I have ever taken.” Her favorite part of the course so far has been learning about emotions. The workload is said to be a lot but when you are interested and have Mr. Davis as a teacher it isn’t too bad, according to Sammy.

Sophomore Yesha Dalal chose AP Psych “because I wanted to take an AP elective and I’ve heard that psychology is really interesting.” This proved to be true when Yesha learned about emotions and why and how we feel a certain way about things, which is her favorite topic. She advised students to “do the work he tells you otherwise you’ll be completely lost.”

AP Psychology is “a course designed to mirror a college level Introduction to Psychology course. There are reading and writing assignments almost daily,” said Mr. Davis. If you choose this class, be ready to work but learn about the interesting ways of the human mind while doing it.
