It’s fall and this is the time when students like a warm drink to keep them toasty.  The decision usually comes down to Pumpkin Spice latte or hot chocolate?

Junior Sabrina Salvi said she likes “hot chocolate better.  I love chocolate and hate pumpkins!” Sabrina gets her hot chocolate from 7-11. Junior Ashley Cunniff agreed that hot chocolate is better.  She said, “When I feel frisky I put cinnamon on top!”  Her favorite spot for hot cocoa is “Beth’s Café in Quogue.”

Starbucks, home of the Pumpkin Spice latte, has sold over 200 million cups of the drink over the past 10 years.  A little known fact about Pumpkin Spice latte is that it actually contains “zero traces of actual pumpkin.”

However, drinking two cups of hot chocolate can keep your brain healthy, according to scientists at The Harvard Medical School.

In comparison, pumpkin spice latte has 290 calories to hot chocolate’s 270. This may be the reason why people choose hot chocolate instead of a Pumpkin Spice latte.  Pumpkin Spice is more of an autumn drink; people like to save hot chocolate for the winter.

Whichever your choice, happy sipping!
