The Grammys have to do better.

The+Grammys+have+to+do+better.

The Grammys are unfair. I say this with an open mind; I’m not an avid watcher of the Grammys but from time to time I’ll secretly hope a certain artist will win or I’ll tune in every thirty minutes to see who won what. Due to the flawed voting process, the 2024 Grammys were biased. Once again, famous artists got overpraised and deserving artists were overlooked.

Lana Del Rey, a musical icon since 2005, having been nominated multiple times for her hit songs she has never won. This year after dropping a new album, Did you Know There’s a Tunnel under Ocean Blvd, fans were sure  that she was a shoe-in to finally win the well-deserved grammy after being nominated in five different categories. Not only was Lana snubbed out of (once again) another hard earned award, Taylor Swift won instead. Many fans responded in outrage, criticizing the Grammys for the biased voting and generic winners. Even before this year’s controversy surrounding the Grammys, famous singer and rapper Jay Z (who had won multiple Grammys), boycotted the award years ago for their blatantly unfair voting system, according to Forbes’ magazine.

The lack of variety in voters is one thing that is a bad decision on the Grammys’ part, it allows internal biases and perceptions to alter the voting processes and makes the process unfair and have bad authenticity. This voting system has proven once again to have disappointed not only the artists and their hard work, but also fans.

In order to eliminate these voting biases, the Grammys should correct the random selection process/ make sure it is people from all throughout the US. They should also take into consideration the hard work put in by aspiring artists and the grit it took to be where they are. Because of this bias within the voting system, the Grammys continue to overlook talented and underground artists, and choose to overpraise the mainstream and already popular artists. The Grammys have to do better.
