Federico Off to Syracuse

Federico Off to Syracuse

One WestHampton Beach Senior student is attending Syracuse University in September. Connor Federico has been dreaming to go to Syracuse since 6th grade. I guess you could say his dreams have come true. Connor has much to say about his dream  school, that has now become a reality.

When asking Connor why he chose Syracuse he says “For its great atmosphere, campus, and education available to me.” Connor has been dreaming to attend this college for years and he explains, “ My father attended there so I was born and raised a fan of the school. My whole life I’ve been watching the football and basketball games, and being a fan in the Carrier Dome has always been a dream of mine.”

The best thing that comes with college is by far a scholarship and Connor says “I received a Chancellor’s Scholarship.” We all have a reason for choosing a college especially when you’re majoring in something that is involved in that college, Connor says “I’ll be majoring in Broadcast Digital Journalism at the Newhouse School of Communications.”

When asking Connor what are some factors that were a part of his  decision of Syracuse, he stated “When I graduate I want to become the next great sportscaster, and there’s been a long line of great sports personalities that graduated from Syracuse, including Bob Costas and Mike Tirico.”

When you’re preparing for college  next year there is much excitement, Connor is most excited to, “get the opportunity to learn from some of the best professors at the Newhouse School, which is considered one of the best Journalism schools in the entire country.

“I’m really excited to meet new people and have the opportunity to live out my dream.” Connors explains what his process was like for applying to Syracuse, “On top of the common application, I had to write a piece about what influenced me to choose Syracuse, which was fairly easy for me.”

Connor’s guidance counselor, Mr. Garvey,  has great things to say about him, “Connor is all set to attend Syracuse University.  He applied Early Decision to Syracuse expressing that Syracuse was his number one choice for college. Mr. Garvey states how Connor has been a fan of this school “ Connor has had his sights on Syracuse University for quite some time as Connor’s dad attended Syracuse University.” His academics and achievements in high school were well proven “Connor has worked hard in high school.  He has selected some of the most challenging courses and has done well.  In addition, he has been involved in a myriad of student activities.  He has played  sports, and has been involved in several clubs and organizations exhibiting leadership and commitment.” Mr. Garvey says “ Connor has done everything that a high school student should do in preparation for admission to a competitive college.  Connor’s resume is strong as is his transcript.”

Mr. Garvey continued, “Moreover, Connor had excellent recommendation letters from his teachers supporting his candidacy.  I was not surprised that the very competitive Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse accepted him.  Connor completed all of the steps in applying to college in a timely fashion.  Studying sports journalism has been a dream of Connor’s.  Connor’s hard work and diligence has allowed his dream to become a reality.  Furthermore, Connor is mature and friendly.  He is most deserving of this opportunity.”

As you can see Connor’s been waiting for this moment to be apart of Syracuse and he is finally going to  live out his dream. Congratulations, and WHB wishes you the best!
