The day they have been waiting for is finally here. Since 3rd grade, seniors Brian Corrigan and Casey Hickey have been fantasizing about playing Division I lacrosse after high school, never did they think that they’d be living this dream together.
With lacrosse being the fastest growing sport on the island, and the Northeast being by far the most competitive region in the nation, getting noticed by “top-notch” schools isn’t the easiest task to complete. In 2012, Long Island had the greatest number of division I recruits in the northeast, and Casey Hickey and Brian Corrigan can consider themselves apart of this prestigious group.
As little kids, Casey and Brian would talk and joke about the possibility of playing college lacrosse. And now, the two seniors with remarkable careers to say the least, are on their way to Marist College right here in NY to play lacrosse. With their families being just as close as Brian and Casey, the two-family “team” is thrilled that Casey and Brian will be playing side by side for another four years.
No matter how talented a high school prospect may be, the college level of play is a huge step, and will take some time to adjust. Casey, who knows “there is always room for improvement” understands that “college lacrosse is different in so many ways.”
Under coach Drew Peters, the Hurricanes entered the 2012 season with its greatest start in over six years. This season, Corrigan plans to “build off of last year’s success” and work towards “advancing further into the playoffs.”
With years spent together on the field, the sense of family is without a doubt present in the lacrosse locker room. Casey is confident that they “will definitely make a playoff run,” as the team hopes to make it to Stony Brook and leave high school as League champs.
