Room 201, Key Club meeting

Don’t know what to do on Tuesdays after school? Stop into room 201 with Mrs. Wiles for Key Club; it’s never too late to sign up!

Junior, Taylor Bentz, a first year member, reported, “I joined Key Club because I wanted to participate in all the fundraisers, plus it looks good for college.” Key Club is an organization focused on community service and friendship. It is the largest and oldest service program for high school students.

Advisor Mrs. Wiles described Key Club as “a service organization that is connected directly to Kiwanis Club, which is an international organization. Our Key Club tries to focus mostly on community service events in our school and our surrounding neighborhoods. Some of our activities include Trick or Treating for Unicef, volunteering at the WHB Oyster Fest in the fall, and contributing to the local food pantry. In the spring the Key Club makes a team and we participate in the Amazing Race that’s held around town, and we’re continually trying to think of fund raising ideas and opportunities to add to our list. This year I’d like to try and make Kiva fundraising a part of Key Club.”

Junior Sarah Strebel, co-president of Key Club said, “Key Club is completely different from other clubs because us students have to run the meetings, set up the fundraisers and make our own agenda.”

Active member and also District 1 Lieutenant Governor, Kiera Solomon, also included, “Key Club is a big part of my life. I travel nationally and worldwide for it. I think it has made me a better person and affected me in a positive way.”

If you’re interested in joining, don’t hesitate. It’s easy! “All you have to do is come to a meeting and see me or one of the officers,” said Mrs. Wiles. Also support the Key Club’s fundraiser selling chocolate!  Be sure to order some from any member!
