Meghan+and+Jess
Meghan and Jess

WHB’s 2024 valedictorian and salutatorian have been announced! Congratulations to Meghan Kelly and Jess Curran!

Meghan and Jess, both were from the East Quogue school district, and achieved the ranks of the highest performing students. I caught up with valedictorian Meghan Kelly, and salutatorian Jess Curran, to learn their tips and tricks of what helped them academically perform this well.

What are your best study tips?

Meghan Kelly: Personally I used a calendar to schedule my studying. Having a place to write down your homework or when you’re going to study makes sure you never miss an assignment and are always prepared for any test.

Jess Curran: Give every assignment your best effort since it will pay off in the long run, Manage your time well to prevent procrastination and don’t overwork yourself.

Do you recommend any classes for someone to take?

Meghan Kelly: If you are a Stem person I would definitely recommend taking AP Research stem since it was a very cool to take everything we learned and to apply it by doing hands-on research.

Jess Curran: I would recommend Science Research with Dr. Gobler since it has given me so many opportunities that I otherwise wouldn’t have had access to, and it helped me realize that it is a subject I would like to pursue.

Meghan and Jess, along from achieving valedictorian and salutatorian, have had many other academic achievements.  Jess was named a scholar in the Regeneron Science Talent search; only 300 students throughout the nation are chosen. It is the United States most prestigious math and science competition.

Meghan, alongside two other WHB students, advanced to the semifinals of the Junior Sciences and Humanities symposium.

Both Jess and Meghan also received perfect scores on their AP Research exams, of only 357 students throughout the world. And, they both received 2024 National Merit Scholarships.

In the fall of 2024 Meghan will be attending Duke and Jess will be attending Princeton. They have had outstanding achievements throughout their school career and have definitely made WHB history.
