As sport seasons come to an end, what happens next for student athletes? Some students may never play their sport again but a few athletes are taking their love for the sport to the collegiate level.

Luckily for a few students, they already have their plans set out.  Senior Alexa Smith is committed to Monmouth University for lacrosse. She received an 85% scholarship, 50% athletic, and 35% academic.

‘’It is emotional and a strange feeling to have my high school career come to an end, but I’m extremely excited for the future and to play with my college team,’’ said Alexa.

Evan Gagne, going to Fairfield University, agreed that he’s excited to move on to a college team.  Evan, who received a “half off scholarship,” will be playing lacrosse.

Zoe Recchion also will be playing lacrosse for Syracuse University. ‘’I’m nervous to leave but super excited to move on and start another journey in my life. It’s exciting to play a D1 sport and to deck our family out in orange.’’

Some students aren’t committed but are receiving phone calls from colleges and still waiting for decisions. Max Pastor will be playing football in college.‘’ I haven’t made my decision yet or received any scholarships but I’ve been contacted by a few schools and they ask me what my interests are, they look at films, etc. ‘’

For those athletes who are still looking to play in college, intramural sports or walking on during tryouts is also an option.

Congrats to our scholar athletes!
