Westhampton Beach High School experienced it’s own taste of the roaring ’20s on December 20th! The Gatsby Gala was created for students in AP English, who had just read the Great Gatsby. Most students would agree that this was one of the most interesting books that we read. Love, betrayal, money, this books got it all!

Just like the book, this gala had it all! Games, dancing, videos, good, you name it. Juniors were able to present projects that they created based on the book. Freesia Ferrantino created a project that taught students how to do the Charleston. Other students created movie trailers for the book, alternate endings, etc.

Emily Beaver said, “Well of course I think my project was the best!” While James Blydenburgh said, “I really liked Alex Patricolo, Roger Llivisaca, and Harrison Aponte’s video project. But all the projects were really good.” Unlike Blydenburgh, Connor Federico said, “Some of the projects were awful and killed the vibe of the party.”

But what else did students think of the gala, besides all of the projects? Emily said, “I thought it was good. It started off a little boring but then it got a lot better.”

I agree Emily. I believe the gala would have been better if there were more activities planned. Many students agreed that it should have been only two periods, not three. Connor agreed with Emily that “it was pretty fun, except it would have been better if Mr. Wiz hadn’t taken me out 9th period.”

I hope the upcoming classes get excited to read the book and party like it’s 1920!
