After a disappointing 2013 campaign, the boys Varsity Soccer squad is on a early surge this season. Just ten games in, the boys have already earned more wins this year than the last with a 5-5-0 record, and hope to keep going strong. Going winless last season must have been disappointing but this year the team is learning from mistakes and have come out firing, but how have they made such an impressive turn around?

After a jump to a new division last year, a lot of adjustments had to be made, learning the play styles of new opponents and adapting to them. When asked about the changes from last year to this year Junior Jeffery Schulz commented, “Last season was really a crippling time, we were a young team that had a lot of potential and now coming into this season we’re all a little older and more accustomed to varsity soccer and the responsibilities we have this year.”

Coming off missing the playoffs last season the ‘Canes are currently in the hunt for the postseason. When asked about the team’s hopes for this year Jeffery also had to say “We are definitely looking for a spot in the playoffs, we weren’t on the same wavelength the first few league games but we see ourselves coming back and being a dark horse for the second half of the season and really being a surprise team.”

Sophomores, Jay Brezinski and Reilly Smith, lead the team in goals with 4 while Brezinski is also tied with fellow captain Junior Jeffery Schulz with 2 assists each. Brezinski also leads the team in points with 6, while junior Goalkeeper Mynor Martinez leads the squad with 48 saves. Their next home game is October 11 vs. Shoreham- Wading River at 6 o’clock.
