“They have these huge cookies that are like the size of a pizza that they deliver to the dorms at all hours of the morning-insomnia cookies they’re called,” senior Joe Palagonia said grinning ear to ear, “I cant wait!”
Destination: University of Syracuse in upstate New York.
Joe first learned about the SU from his cousin who is currently sophomore there. When he went to go visit him, he instantly fell in love with the campus.
As Joe looked more into the school and what it has to offer, he knew it was “the one” as soon as he saw they had Film as a major-something Joe wishes to pursue a career in.
“The education,” is what Joe said he was most excited about, quickly adding on that the “ladies” were another thing he looked very much forward too along with the sporting events.
“Oh yeah, I’m definitely getting season tickets to basketball, but I haven’t decided if I want them for football or lacrosse.” Syracuse’s basketball team is currently ranked 4th in NCAA Men’s Basketball.
Following in the footsteps of past WHBHS students Josh Ozpinar, Dennis Hayes and Dan Shoten, Joe will be entering the school in the fall of 2011. His major: Italian. “Yeah, I kind of messed up the paper work so in Syracuse’s eyes I am an Italian major, but the first day I am there I’m switching to film.”
Joe was first interested in being a film major when he was younger and loved to watch movies. In high school, he enrolled in Broadcast Journalism where he learned how to write scripts, work the teleprompter, use cameras, and put together packages that were going to be shown to the whole school on the Hurricane Watch.
Since Syracuse is known for the amount of snow it gets (the most out of any city in the country with 115.6 inches per year), Joe plans to learn to ski and make it a hobby of his. Depending on finances, Joe plans to finish his four years at Syracuse and then go to NYU for grad school and from there, jump start his career.
Good luck Joe! We can’t wait until we see your name rolling at the end of the credits of the most talked about movie of the year.
