The world waits for the fateful day of Dec. 21, 2012. Will the world end or will it just be another day in our lives?
There are so many conflicting theories and prophecies attached to this date. Here I’ll attempt to present the ‘facts’ and ‘evidence’ so you can decide if there is actually something to worry about.
Lately there has been a lot of talk about the Mayan calendars and the end of the world as we know it. But how was the date Dec. 21st determined to be the end? You see, the Mayan calendar is based on cycles, and that cycle ends every 394 years and then a new one begins. December 21 just happened to be the date that the current cycle ends. There was a recent archeological find in La Corona, Guatemala that tells of the beginning of a new world and mentions the passing of the king, and from this many interpreted that this means the world was ending. Other archeologists disagree, however, and say that it represents political turmoil.
Another theory is that Nibiru (aka Planet X) has been coming towards Earth and will either collide with us or come close causing all sorts of disasters. For many though, this theory has been discarded. If a planet was actually coming towards us scientists would have been tracking it for years and we would now be able to see it with our naked eye. It would also change other planets’ orbits, which has not happened.
Could it all be a conspiracy? One belief is that scientists have actually spotted Nibiru but have decided to keep quiet to not cause massive panic. This could be possible, but could the government really be able to keep thousands of people in the scientific community quiet for many years?
Many people have decided that the end of the world is coming and have taken the matter in their own hands buying their own private bunkers for millions of dollars. On eBay you can buy your very own for only $109,900! Pretty cheap if it’s going to save your life right? Though considering that the bunker is on Earth, which is apparently ending, it might not be that much help…
Then there are all of the natural disasters happening around the world: the polar ice caps melting, massive droughts and floods, tornados, hurricanes, and other extreme weather. Scientists all over the world say that there are more to come but it has no relation to the Mayan calendar date. It has a familiar name, Climate Change. It’s a massive problem and people need to understand all the damage we are doing by simply overusing something or by making our grass greener with pesticides. If we keep doing what we’re doing have created our own apocalypse.
There are so many other theories and ideas about December 21st and most are just considered bogus because there is so much evidence gathered against it. The media, only adding to the craze, has magnified everything, with movies and books.
Personally if the world’s going to end, I think I’m just going to wait and see what happens. I mean where are you even going to go? If the world ends, it ends. It’s not as if everyone’s prepared in their bunkers that the world will just be like ‘Oh no, they are in an expensive bunker and have six gallons of water, I’m not going to end!’ So on December 21st I’ll just probably be sleeping, so wake me up if anything exciting happens. Hope to see you all the next day!
