“That’s why I like the new year, because everybody get a chance to start over.”
Now it is officially 2011. Have you made a New Year’s resolution?
Junior Kiernan Berglin said, “My New Year’s resolution is to keep my overall average above 85. It is important to have a New Year’s resolution because it is a chance to challenge yourself to either start doing something you’ve always wanted to do or to do it better.”
Sophomore Stephanie Vitarelli said, “It’s important to make a resolution; it’s kind a like starting over. You can erase the past and think about the year ahead of you. Mine’s to be more of a true person to myself, my family, and mostly my friends.”
However, junior Meredith Nugent disagreed. She said, “I actually don’t make a New Year’s resolution because I don’t want to feel obligated to change on cue. If the inspiration comes to me in the middle of November, I don’t wait until the New Year just because of this “phenomenon.” I say just do it! Even though I may be sounding like a “party pooper,” this is my personal opinion. Make a change at anytime, not out of perceived obligation due to this tradition.”
Making a New Year’s resolution is like making a plan for the year. What aspect at your life do you want to improve? What do you want to achieve this year?
Making a resolution is like making a deal with ourselves. We make a promise to become better with a determination and discipline.
Imagine life is like a car. You are the driver. The resolution is your destination. Where are you going? How long it will take to get there? What do you need to get there? What is the road that you take?
So make a resolution because you want to improve your life. If not, what is the point of life? What is the point of you being here?
“We suffer one of two things, either the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.
You’ve got to choose discipline, versus regret, because discipline weighs ounces and regret weighs tons. The reason is because the regret is an accumulated affect a year from now, two years from now. When you didn’t do the easy discipline,” said motivator Mike Litman.
So, make one, and see how your life improves.
