Three-season athlete Kathleen Mensch was a major contributor in helping our girls’ lacrosse team make school history this year. As a defensive midfielder, Kathleen was not only a leader but also a learner as she took in Coach Bergmann’s new ideas in making the lacrosse program the best it could be.

Kathleen started playing lacrosse in first grade when all of her friends began. Although she didn’t really get into it until fifth grade, Kathleen was born with a natural talent. Throughout this season Kathleen caused 40 turnovers, controlled 35 draws, and had two goals with one assist. She was ranked third in team contribution with 111 points. “Kathleen was a huge asset to our team this year. Without her on the midfield line we would have been missing a piece of the puzzle,” said Brianna Moore.

Along with a new season came a new coach. Kathleen said, “Having a new coach really changed the atmosphere of the team. Although she made us work hard, she believed in us and really made us believe in ourselves.” The girls on the team agree that without Coach Bergmann they wouldn’t have the skills or confidence to be where they are now as the season comes to a sad ending.

Kathleen believes next year the team can go even further. She will be doing “season workouts with trainers, summer league, winter league, camps, and just throwing the ball on the wall.” As an upcoming senior we hope to see nothing but good things from Kathleen.
