“Confident, dedicated, talented.” A straightforward description of a well-rounded student.
Peter Broccoli, a senior here at WHBHS, is living, breathing proof that hard work leads to success. The newly crowned wrestling league champ dominates both on the mat and in the classroom.
With wrestling being stitched into the genes of the Broccoli family, Peter has been apart of the sport since he can remember. Peter’s family has the “greatest influence” on him, supporting him “no matter what [he] chooses to do.”
After over 11 years of wrestling experience, Peter has shown a tremendous amount of improvement in his senior season. “He has so much more confidence,” said varsity wrestling coach Mr. Bass. “More confidence brings more success, and Peter shows this.” Finishing the season with a 30-3 record, Peter has established himself as “The one to beat” in Suffolk county.
As any student athlete is aware, sports use up a lot of time that could be spent studying for tests, or reading that book that’s due next week. If anyone is familiar with this feeling, it’s Peter. Five AP courses, including Calculus AB, which happens to be his favorite class, give Peter on average 2-3 hours of homework per night. Couple this with wrestling practice and weight lifting 5 days a week and you end up with a very overwhelming schedule. However, Peter was on the principal’s honor roll the first two quarters.
When asked what he has planned for the future, Peter explains that he plans to “study Biology at either LSU or the University of Georgia.” This being a prerequisite to med-school that Peter plans on attending.
Despite all of the success that he has achieved over his high school career, including two trips to the football league IV county championship, acceptance into multiple prestigious colleges, and a wrestling league championship, Peter just wants to be remembered as “a nice, hardworking kid.”
