This past January WHB welcomed new assistant principal Mrs. Tracey.
Mrs. Tracey, who previously taught English to grades 9 through 12 at Bellport High School for 1 year aswell as 11 years at Copiague, she loved teaching classic books to the students like, The Great Gatsby and Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which remain some of her favorites to this date.
Mrs. Tracey decided to become an administrator to expand her influence, Mrs. Tracey explained, “I wanted to have more reach to students and the community, and more ability to help and make an impact.” Before she was an assistant principal here, she was a dean at Oceanside , where she managed discipline and school-wide concerns, a role she described as a big transition from teaching. Moving from dean to assistant principal was not as hard. Being an AP lets her focus more on leadership and community building.
Mrs. Tracey already has developed a love for the WHB community. She said, “This is the most amazing community and the best school I’ve worked at.” In her first year she wants to prioritize building strong relationships with both students and coworkers. She also hopes to make strong connections with students and staff and have a positive impact on students.
Outside of school, Mrs. Tracey enjoys reading. Currently, she’s reading Stephen King’s Under the Dome. Her favorite book changes from time to time but right now would have to be A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. She also enjoys running marathons and plans to run the Hamptons Marathon this upcoming September.
Mrs. Tracey wants students to know about her commitment to both learning and connection. Her combination of being a teacher, dean, and now assistant principal helps her for a promising career at Westhampton Beach High School.
