Mrs. Probst’s empty office, awaiting her replacement

As many students know former A-D guidance counselor Mrs. Probst moved to the West Hempstead district to work as a guidance director. Many students are concerned when will a replacement will be selected for Mrs. Probst.

Due to the time frame around Mrs. Probst departure there was not enough time for the district to advertise, interview, and appoint a replacement.  The Director of Guidance, Dr. Finn, says, “The process was well underway prior to Mrs. Probst leaving.”

For many seniors, now is the time for college applications and processing. Seniors with last names A and D are seeing Mr. Garvey, B students are seeing Mrs. Minnear and all C students are seeing Ms. Habersaat.

If any students are in crisis Dr. Finn says, “Students in crisis should always feel free in coming to the counseling center. In addition to the guidance counselors, we have a full time school psychologist and a social worker who complement our office.  So students will always have someone they can speak with. If possible, we will utilize the alphabet above [A,D-Mr. Garvey, B-Mrs. Minnear, C-Ms. Habersaat] to direct students toward their interim counselor.”

Dr. Finn also said that a replacement should be selected before Christmas, if all goes to plan.

Lastly, Dr. Finn adds, “I would like to commend our counselors for their hard work and dedication to all of the students in our building. They have stepped up to fill the current need and we are very fortunate to have them as part of our faculty.”
