The flu has ravaged WHB for weeks now, and with winter still fresh in our minds, we wonder when this sickness will end.
Influenza is a well-known virus and usually hits its peak in mid-winter during the coldest time of the year. When you feel that headache, fever, and desire to just sleep, you know you’ve been hit. Many people are controversial over the flu shot; some say it does nothing some say it will help you defend against the flu, and others say it will just give you the flu! According to Biology teacher Mr.Berkhout, the best way to prevent the flu is to, “Wash hands often with warm water and plenty of soap, and provide your body with proper nutrition. Eat healthy meals including vitamins and minerals, (don’t forget the veggies) drink plenty of water, and get plenty of sleep; all of which help your immune system fight infections. He recommends the flu shot for all adults, “especially the elderly and people with weak immune systems.” Look for Mr. Berkout’s Biology classes’ flu season specials on the Hurricane Watch.
The flu is different for each person, sometimes it only makes you tired other times it can hit with a 103 fever and chills. Sophomore Connor Federico, a student here who has recently had the flu, says, “For me, the flu mostly just made me tired. I got a low fever, but it didn’t last very long.
While flu season is still going strong, just remember that all things must end-just think of that warm spring and summer coming up to get you through it.
