The girls softball team is heading back to the playoffs!
The team went 15-4 and are the number one seed in League 7, Class AA playoffs.
The number one seed means home field advantage until the championship game which is played on a neutral site.
Senior Addison Celi feels the team looks strong going into the playoffs. She said, “We look very strong, more confident in our abilities now than ever and we’re in a great spot as far as seeding is concerned, it should be a great run.”
The season’s biggest challenge according to Addison was “finishing games. We would be up late and lose league half to crawl back and execute a difficult win. But we were able to come out on top in most of those, which is a testament to this team’s never say die mentality.”
This happened in a recent loss to New York State Class A champion Miller Place in extra innings after a late home run by the Panthers.
Sophomore Reilly Maloney says their biggest accomplishment was “going from not making playoffs last year to making them this year and being league champs. We have worked hard all season and even off season and it paid off.”
According to Reilly the team’s biggest strength was “going into playoffs is being first so we have the advantage of playing at our home field against the other teams we are playing and playing lower seeds.”
On Saturday May 23 the girls will face the winner of East Hampton and ESM in the first round of playoffs. Follow the girls on instagram @whbsoftball for all the latest updates!
