The Westhampton Beach Track Invitational still went on even though it was cold and rainy. Athletes from Westhampton Beach High School, Hampton Bays High School, and Southampton High School all competed and did pretty well.
The Westhampton Beach girls team had a great day winning multiple events. Junior Allie Barry won the triple jump. Sophomore Catherine Robesch won the 3000 meter race, and junior Elizabeth Sultan won the hurdles race and got second in another event. Sophomore Chloe Webb also won the triple jump for novice athletes which made them the better team in the event.
Sophomore Jon Marden finished 16th in the varsity 400 meter hurdles, and junior Magnus Haynia finished 21st in the varsity 800 meter run with a 2:08.75. 3200m runner Levi Salvi said, “To prepare, the day before the race I make sure to eat a lot of carbs for dinner and the day of the race I make sure to stay as warm and loose as I can be.”
Junior Nic Simone who runs the 100m, 400m, and 4x100m said, “ I usually spend time in the weight room working on plyometrics and compound lifts like cleans and squats” to improve race times.
Overall, the WHBHS track team is on the way to being a better team next year and they even put up some points at the annual Westhampton Beach Invitational.
