What seemed like a simple assembly was actually the result of weeks of hard work and by the Business Advisory Club, who put in countless hours to make the annual Freshman Skills Assembly a success.
Business Advisory Club president, Elizabeth Sultan, said, “I am proud of the finished product and happy to see that it was well received by the freshmen class. The experience was meaningful because it allowed me to share my knowledge with younger students. It was a ‘full circle moment’ because I remembered sitting in the auditorium myself as a freshman and listening to a similar presentation.”
The assembly showcased the work by the Business Advisory Club. BAC vice president, Allie Barry said, “The assembly came with a lot of responsibility. As the face of the assembly, we had to step into a role where the club relied on us for our guidance and putting together the presentation. It really helped me to learn the importance of delegating tasks to club members so everyone can contribute, but also overseeing everything and staying organized to ensure that no part was missing or not fully committed to.”
The VE (Virtual Enterprise) team was a part of the presentation, showing the freshmen what the class is about, learning skills of a business leader and giving them a chance to explore the field.
A goal of the BAC was to make the assembly entertaining for the freshmen. Allie said, “Part of what makes the assembly interesting and engaging are all the different speakers, videos, and this year, a musical performance and game of Family Feud with the audience. It took a lot of planning and adjusting the presentation to make sure that we could include these different elements without compromising other parts.”
Senior Topher Ramos performed piano with senior Michelle Rodriguez accompanying him, singing “Vienna” and “Unwritten.”
Beyond the entertainment, the assembly was meant to educate freshmen students about career readiness. Some of the main topics taught during the assembly included how students can understand the importance of jobs and creating strong resumes.
Students learned how to apply for a job and learned the importance of creating a great first impression, which can influence their school and future career lives.
Family Feud, hosted by sophomore Dom Pesce, made the event interactive, allowing students to participate in the event and learn about career readiness in a fun way.
Overall, the assembly was successful in providing entertainment and education to the students. The Business Advisory Club and Mrs. Demchak ensured that the students enjoyed the event through music and activities, and at the same time, learned about career readiness.
Of the event, Allie said, “I hope the freshmen learned about taking initiative to be involved within the school. I also hope that they were inspired to join new clubs, make an impact and hopefully take on leadership roles within clubs themselves one day.”
