A New Chapter for Girls’ Lacrosse

Out with the old and in with the new. Coach Mary Bergmann joined the girls’ varsity lacrosse family as head coach this year. Ms. Bergmann is a successful former coach from Shoreham-Wading River High School and hopes to bring all that success to the up and coming Westhampton team.

Coach Bergmann has already started workouts and lacrosse practices to prepare the girls for the upcoming season. As Coach Bergmann starts getting to know the team she will be adapting and developing her coaching style. Coach Bergmann believes, “There is a great foundation here of phenomenal athletes and I want to build on that and really make this into a program, not just another spring sport.”

She thinks that the best part of coaching is seeing the reactions girls give when they win big game. “Those little moments are what make coaching so much fun.” Bergmann hopes to make it past the first round of playoff threshold, which the girls’ program has had trouble breaking so far.

This season the lacrosse girls and the new coach will have a lot of exciting changes in developing a stronger and more successful program. Coach Bergmann’s lacrosse knowledge is all she needs from her years playing in college and on the Dutch Women’s National Lacrosse Team. Hopefully she can lead the Lady Hurricanes to an extremely victorious season. Come support the girls’ lacrosse team at their first home game on March 28th against Shoreham-Wading River!
