The Perfect Balance

The Perfect Balance

About 750 Hurricanes play at least one sport per year. Playing a sport during the year takes up the majority of student’s time after school, leaving little time for homework. Coming home after 5:00 every night requires a lot of time management and balance between schoolwork and sports.

Knowing your priorities and what work has to be finished, is the key to being a successful student athlete. Sophomore, Kelsey D’Aries said, “You should take any extra time you have to do your homework because doing work late at night is tiring and you can’t focus as well.” Basketball player John La Mura suggests that you don’t procrastinate after a practice or a game.

Time management is one way to help yourself finish homework on time. Senior Brooke Alpert suggested, “The key to balancing schoolwork with sports is time management. You are always aware of when your practices are and when your games are, you just have to set aside enough time to get your school work done.” Brooke has two study halls which she uses to her advantage everyday to finish her work before practices and games.

Managing sports and school is tough but it can easily be done with focus and determination. Avoid procrastinating and set expectations for yourself and you won’t get weighed down by schoolwork and can focus on your game.
