Girls basketball kicked off on Wednesday, November 20th, with the start of  jv and varsity tryouts. The loss of two starting seniors Sammi Vickers and Katelyn Ogeka leaves the team wondering what they can make of the new season.

Senior captain Lauren Smith said, “I think we are going to perform around the same as last year; we are in a very difficult league but, we have the potential to do very well.”  Smith, a third year varsity player, plays as a forward for the team, because she’s one of the tallest players. This will be her last season playing basketball as a Hurricane.  She said, “I cannot believe it. I’m going to miss it so much.”

Last year was Lauren’s favorite basketball season, “We had a huge upset, spoiled a team’s playoffs opportunity, as a team we bonded well and had so much fun.”

Coach Polan has stayed as a constant during all of the seasons for the Hurricanes. He expects the girls to always play their hardest and to give it their all. In practice he lets them play around but expects them all to be serious and focused during game time.
