Netflix has become very popular all over the world with over 40 million subscribers and the number keeps growing every day. Netflix first started out as a DVD-by-mail rental service but has become far more complex by being able to use this program on more than 1,000 different devices.

Junior Gillian Willis said, “I watch Netflix to relax in bed and have a variety of shows I want to watch in front of me.” Gill said her favorite show on Netflix is One Tree Hill.

On a normal weeknight, Netflix accounts for almost a third of all Internet traffic entering North American homes. Netflix usually peaks around 10 p.m. in each time zone. In the last year around 900,000 American households have cut the cord in signing up for cable television, which is only 1% of households that subscribe for cable television.

Sophomore Joe Bonner, who started watching Netflix because of his dad, said, “I watch Netflix because I get to pick what I want to watch when I want to watch it.” Joe’s favorite shows are Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire.

Senior Jonathon Dutton said, “I watch Netflix because it has my favorite shows on it, and I broke my cable box so it’s my only option.” Jon’s favorite show is Prison Break.

Netflix has become so popular that some could say that Netflix is killing cable television. Netflix only cost around $10 a month compared to cable television which is around $80 a month.

Netflix is way more convenient than cable television because viewers can watch whatever they want, whenever they want. Netflix not only has TV shows but movies as well, giving people a broader choice of options. If you haven’t signed up for a Netflix account, sign up today !
