Each year it is a collaborative effort of their mechanical, electrical, and programming subteams to build the best bot they can. From day one, they are full speed ahead, putting vast amounts of hard work and dedication into the robot.
The team was started just before first robotics competition in 2010 by current seniors Nick Panzarino and Brandon Brule when they were freshman. They compete in the first robotics competition held each year and this year they will be competing in the New York City Regional in Javits Center and the Long Island Regional in Hofstra University. Each year there is a different theme for the competition, and this year its a cross between Frisbee, gulf, pro wrestling, and mountain climbing.
If this sounds intriguing, you can sign up for the team by going to Mr. Petersen’s room, room 133 or The Tech Lab, after school from October to November on announced days. Team signups for this year are closed off because they are fully engaged in their building season. Senior John Bakker, a member of the robotics team, says that even if you come in with no skills, there is a place for you.
The robotics team is serious and ready to win this years competition. Come and support your Robotics team! John Bakker says, “If you thought that our football games got intense, you have no clue!”
