Hurricane Sandy, nicknamed “Frankenstorm,” swept through Long Island with a vengeance. Will this affect our Spring Break or not?
While Hurricane Sandy is long gone her wake is still seen all across Long Island, she leveled buildings and left people out of power for days if not weeks.
Sandy caused discomfort for everyone and now may even be taking away our Spring Break. According to Superintendent Radday’s letter, “If we are fortunate to make it through the winter season without any additional emergency closings, the school vacation periods as indicated on the District calendar will remain intact.”
Of Long Island’s 124 districts, 66 have canceled or are considering canceling all or part of winter break. This outrages students at WHBHS, Sophomore Connor Federico said, “I don’t think this is fair. Hurricane Sandy devastated all of Long Island we shouldn’t have to make up these days.”
We will just have to wait for what the winter brings us and hope for the best.
