Bonjour Hurricanes!

The students in Mrs. Travers’ French classes at WHBHS now have pen pals from Aix en Providence France.

The connection with this school came from our French teacher Ms. O’Hara, who is on a teaching sabbatical in France this year.

Pen Pals require a significant amount of work, but are beneficial, promoting patience, develop compassion and an understanding of the language for both sides. The French students are able to practice their English, while American students write to their pen pals in French.

According to sophomore Anna Peraino, “I need to have a well-developed understanding of the French language to be able to be able to write well enough so the other person is able to understand it.”

All students enjoy having a pen pal and want to keep in touch with them after this year. Sophomore Juliet Tomaro said, “I like to learn the culture and how their life is different than ours.”

Sophomore Arsh Naseer described her pen pal. She said, “My pen pal is 15 years old as well as I am, I know what classes she takes, she likes to ski, and she says that she would love to come to America one day.”

About her pen pal, Juliet Tomaro said,  “His name is Vincent and he likes music and plays several instruments.”

Arsh said of the experience, “I love receiving their letters. It’s like getting a present.”
