Twitter is a popular social media app that almost everyone in the world is on. If you have connection to the Internet you most likely have a twitter. The app is used by mainly the younger generation for a way of communication, but it’s also used to spread news and to promote business,it has many different uses.

Twitter is different from the other apps such as; Facebook because you only have a 140-character limit, this is called a tweet. Jack Dorsey the creator of twitter thinks it’s time for an upgrade. He wants to move the 140 character limit 10,000. This talk about the upgrade definitely sparked controversy among everyday twitter users. It was a trending topic for 3 days. “I feel like Jack Dorsey is just trying to appeal to more people by adding Facebook’s like features. I think it is wrong 140 characters is meant to be your limit. If you can’t get your point across with 140 you can’t with 10k. I know people started using Twitter because you could see the thoughts of celebrities and politician. They didn’t want a wall of text like you would find on Facebook,” stated by 12th grader, Jerry Gwinn. Twitter is known as the fun app; it allows you to be in contact with your friends, celebrities and even politicians, anyone can make a twitter. People believe that changing the character limit is going to ruin the effect twitter has on people, and it’s going to basically be creating Facebook just with a few different features.

Most Twitter users have said that they would enjoy the upgrade just to fit in that extra word or two that they couldn’t fit into their normal tweet. “I feel that Twitter shouldn’t do that because people will get frustrated with their feeds being clogged with huge tweets that no one would want to read,” said by Paige Golding, 11th grader. This is the main argument that people have with the upgrade-the large post that would be on their feeds of people ranting on and on about nothing. This was a big reason why most left Facebook because of the large posts users had per day that nobody wanted to read. Twitter was a relief and it was quick sweet and to the point and prevented users from ranting.

“No. Twitter users are use to short bits of information and they were trying to get away from the Facebook band wagon. OG Twitter users were hipsters that didn’t follow trends. You will see a percentage of people leave Twitter but for the most part nothing noticeable will happen except for Twitter users ranting and making themselves look much more stupid then they would with a measly 140 characters,” said by Jerry Gwinn.

A lot of people felt that the short and small posts were more enjoyable. It was less reading and made everything easier, now people feel that if you change it to the 10k limit twitter is going to be more of a blogging site than a communication site.  It’s just giving people more of a reason to talk and rant about topics online.
