CURE’s Battle shirts from the past two years.

Within the next few weeks the battle cry for the Battle of the Bands will be heard and seen every day throughout the school, from the morning announcements to the small 3×3 posters hanging up in every possible location.

This year’s Battle will seek to build upon the success of last year’s Battle. It will be held on April 17th from 6:30pm to 10pm, with many different bands competing for the title of victor. “It’s one of our largest fundraisers for CURE, gaining a large average of our money which will go to many things, such as savings that we can debate on and use for a later year, or into a project that we’re working on,” stated Christine Boland, CURE’s Secretary. The proceeds will most likely go towards the installment of a new Hydration Station, known as the “Hydro,” or some other water-related cause.

It doesn’t take a few people to organize the largest CURE event of the year; it takes an army of CURE members working week after week, ensuring that everything’s ready ahead of time. It takes several weeks to create a final list of the bands that will be performing. Every band that is interested in performing must submit a short track of the songs they will perform, attend mandatory meetings starting March 12th in the Wet Lab, and pay the flat entrance fee.

Just like those who attend the Battle, the CURE members who staff it make sure to have fun that night. “It’s fantastic to see the student bands get up there and rock out. I truly enjoyed it,” claimed Jackie DeVito, one of CURE’s Recycling Coordinators. “Last year was my first year in CURE, so it was my first year helping out with Battle,” stated Sam Murphy, one of CURE’s Recycling Coordinators, “I wasn’t so sure what to expect, but I heard it was a blast, and I was not disappointed.” According to junior Katherine Klima, “Battle was pretty awesome last year. There were a lot of cool bands and it rocked.”

The cost of attending the Battle will be $7 per ticket, which will be sold at the door. Make sure to come on down and see the musically oriented students of WHBHS rock out and have fun!
