As the school year comes to a close, student athletes have been wrapping up sports. Spring of 2014 has been one of the most exciting seasons yet at WHBHS with the boys baseball, girls lacrosse, and boys tennis all making it into the playoffs, but what about track?

Track doesn’t have playoffs or championship games like most sports. Track has Divisions, a county qualifier. Divisions takes a lot of hard work and integrity in order to qualify. “Going to divisions means that you are in the top 15 relay teams or the top 25 for single events,” said junior Kyle Terry.

This year was Kyle’s first trip to Divisionals for high jump and the 4×100, a race with four people running 100 meters each. Kyle had both events towards the end of the meet so he was “a little nervous for the six hours I was there.  But, all the guys on the team are good friends, so we calmed each other down during the whole meet.”

Kyle’s personal records include “47 seconds for the 4×100 and I jumped 5’7” for high jump.” He hopes that by the end of his senior year he will “get to 6 feet in the high jump and get the school record with my 4×100 team.”

Sophomore Shea Casey qualified for discus, a field event that requires throwing a 1 kilogram disc further than the competition. About making it to Divisionals, Shea was, “proud of myself and all my hard work during the season actually paid off.” Shea’s personal record is 77 feet. Although Shea didn’t win this year, her plans for next season are to “make it back to divisions and hopefully win.”

Congrats to all who worked hard and had successful seasons.
