Hurricane Homecoming Happenings

October 19th starts one of the most popular weeks in Westhampton Beach. Homecoming week! This is the one-week of the school year the students get to truly express their school spirit. In the end it all leads up to the one big day of the year, the homecoming game against Hurricane rivals the ESM Sharks, on October 23rd.

“I obviously love how for the entire week our school comes together but to pick my one favorite part of spirit week would be in the gym that Friday morning before the first bell rings. You can feel the excitement in the air it is just a feeling unlike any other.” stated the Student Government president, Catherine Penn.

Monday’s theme is Superhero Day, a day that most of the students love.     Who wouldn’t love dressing up like a superhero and coming to school?  Tuesday we have a classic and all time favorite, Twin Day. Wednesday is Sports/Jersey Day, so students can come out and support their favorite teams or player. Thursday is Patriotic Day when students can show their love for America.  The Bonfire that night, kids from every grade come out to see the varsity teams, and to gather around the large fire coming together as one. The last and final day is one of the biggest days of the year. Color Day also known as pep rally day. Color day is mostly huge for the WHB Seniors because that means togas and your last Pep Rally Day ever as a Hurricane.

Kelsey Taylor, 11th grade, said her favorite day of the week is Color Day, because of the excitement felt in the air leading into the gymnasium for pep rally.

“Freshmen, remember that this is the one day of the year that this happens, that you should make the most out of every minute. A lot of seniors would be more than happy to be just starting their experience in high school over again,” said by senior Catherine Penn.

Friday is not just Pep Rally, its also homecoming night. This year we get the liberty of versing our local rivals the ESM Sharks. Last year we went up against the Sharks in a history making game. The game went into over time and the ‘Canes needed to pull it together as a team and take the win. Hurricane alumni and former quarterback Henry Moreta and now sophomore Dylan Laube helped ‘Canes win last year with an epic play in overtime.  This year we have a stacked up team and plan on taking another win against the Sharks, with the support from the packed bleachers, full of energetic and supportive fans. The Hurricanes are hopefully bound to win yet another homecoming game.
