Fitness and Fun at Flip-Flop Gymnastics

Gabrielle Montalbano, Staff Writer

For the past 14 years, Flip-Flop Gymnastics has been providing a place for locals to jump, stretch, and flip in a safe, clean environment.

Flip-Flop is owned by Sue Caramore, a former gymnast, who wanted to share her love of the sport with the kids on the East End.  Lucky for us, she chose a Westhampton Beach location!

Flip-Flop offers classes for all ages, from 18 months to adult.  A cool class they offer outside of the normal tumbling classes is the Ninja Challenge (think: American Ninja Warrior).  According to their website, it’s an obstacle course skills program that incorporates basic skill sets from gymnastics, climbing, cross training, and track and field. Using gymnastics equipment with specialized ninja training equipment (cargo nets, rock walls, slack lines, ropes, swinging rings and ladders), the program is designed to  improve children’s strength, flexibility, and all around athleticism.

In a recent interview, Caramore said, “I am so proud of how the business has grown and for the reputation it has.  I’m proud of the coaches and instructors, some who have been here since the beginning.”

Flip-Flop also offers camps, birthday parties, and a competitive gymnastics team, which has won medals at local and National Competitions.

Due to their success, Flip-Flop Gymnastics recently opened a smaller location in Southold called Flip-Flip Gymkids, which is geared towards a younger audience or school-aged kids on the North Fork.

Flip-Flop is helping to build the strength and confidence of our local children.  Visit their location in WHB at 381-14 Old Riverhead Road or online at www.Flip-flopgymnastics.com.
