The Truth About Your Gym Class

Ah, gym. Gym class is a favorite for some but dreadful for the others. The class size and peers determine that for most.

Due to scheduling purposes, some gym classes have as little as 5 people and as much as 130 students in a gym at one time! What goes along with the smaller classes is that if a student doesn’t know anyone, it can be difficult to find a friend or play on teams since not even 5 students can make one team. Along with the small class, they are more focused because there is “more time to discuss class activities along with personal interests,” explained by Mrs. Peters.

What goes along with the bigger classes is that “there’s not enough space for indoor activities” or “there’s not enough equipment,” Mrs. Peter’s said. Gym Volleyball, everyone’s favorite, is also very different depending on your class size. Period five’s class has 17 students with only four to five students spread throughout four teams, which doesn’t allow much diversity within the games.

There’s nothing that can change the fact that some classes are small and some are big so every year it’s best to just hope for a friend to engage with.
