Tundra on the Turf

The varsity boys and girls winter lacrosse practices are in full swing, leading into the beginning of the 2015 regular season. Practices take places on Mondays and Wednesdays for the boys, while the girls take the field on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practices have been going on since mid-November and continue until the beginning of the spring season.

When asked for one word to describe practice, most players would respond with “cold,” and while most of those have been playing lacrosse for some time, these winter practices bring a whole new challenge. The weather conditions become harsher as the winter rolls on, the air becomes colder and the snow falls harder. Temperatures dip down below freezing, and athletes bundle up, wearing sweatshirts and sweatpants, accompanied with under armor, glove liners and warm socks, especially nice and warm socks.

It seems that many decide to not join those willing to brave the weather, (myself included from time-to-time) when asked why they think most people don’t show up, one regular attendee responded with “I think now that it’s so close to the break, people just don’t want to go.” Whether you plan on attending or not, winter practices are a great time to spend to with friends and play some lacrosse.
