Gay Straight Alliance Club

The Gay Straight Alliance Club (GSA) is back at Westhampton Beach! GSA, ensures there is a safe supportive environment for all, held its first meeting on Thursday 13th 2014. The first meeting had only four students but fortunately after getting some word out, the second meeting, the following Thursday, eight new faces showed!

The Gay Straight Alliance Club is provides a regular meeting place for students who are gay straight or questioning their sexuality. It’s a celebrating environment where students who are gay, and straight can work together to support each other and feel comfortable being themselves.

Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Angiporti, the club’s adviser, states that the club’s only rule is that whatever is said during the meetings will be kept within the club (unless it’s harmful to themselves or someone else). She wants the club to “spread a message of tolerance and diversity throughout the Westhampton Beach schools and community.”

The GSA Club will be different this time around and hopes to get more involved with the community and the school. They will be participating in fundraisers such as a bake sale and even getting a segment in one of the next Hurricane Watches.

On April 11th a Day of Silence, where students will not speak for the whole day to protest the bullying and harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual students and their supporters, will take place at WHB. It symbolically represents the silencing of LGBT students and their supporters.

Stop into Room 208 on Thursdays during extra-help and help in the process of making all of our students feel accepted!
