This 2021 girls varsity lacrosse season is brewing. Due to Covid-19, WHBGVL missed out on last season, but the Hurricanes have 13 strong returners and seven newcomers in this year’s abbreviated season.

Due to the setback, the Hurricanes are hungry for competition. With seven seniors, WHB is feeling strong. Maureen Duffy, six year varsity returner says, “My goal for this season is for our team to really blend and work together to get us as far as we can to get to playoffs.”

The girls and coaches are really hyped up for this season. Jackie Amato, a four year returner says, “I want to prove that all the working out and skill work I did during the year off really helped me become a better player.”

This season brings in new players, from middle school to juniors. Eighth graders Reese King and Lily Graves and 7th grader Ava Derby were brought up to varsity from the middle school. Junior Ciara Byrne joined the varsity team as well.

WHBGVL is filled with confidence and determination. Each teammate pushes each other. Jackie advises them to, “Work hard and be confident and never doubt yourself.”

Some of these senior laxers will be continuing their lacrosse career next year. Maureen Duffy committed to Virginia University, Campbell Kast to Millersville, Casey Galleger to La Salle, and Taylor Gallarello to Liberty.

Other seniors have also made their college decisions.Caroline Henke is attending College of Charleston, Molly Skorobohaty is off to Pepperdine, and Jackie Amato to Holy Cross!

The regular season officially ends June 4th and the girls hope to defeat Sayville and earn a spot in the playoffs.  Follow the girls’ season on Instagram: @WHBeachLax.
