This year, eligible seniors were assigned parking spots, leading to some mild controversy on the grounds at WHBHS.

The reason behind the newly assigned student and staff parking spots is to create organization and control over the parking lot. Assistant Principal Mr. Bookamer said, “It gives us a better handle of the parking lot, making it easy to manage, and easier for the seniors to have a specific spot to park, without another student or staff member taking it.”

However, having the privilege to park in the lot comes along with rules. Rules include having a full license in order to be eligible for a parking pass. This creates a controversy for other seniors who are unable to receive a pass because they only have a junior license.   There are a total of 155 parking spots, and at this time, spots are still available for seniors to receive a pass.

Senior Ryan Brennan said, “The new spots are a great addition and helps keep juniors from stealing our spots.”

Some juniors with full licenses are not happy about the policy.  However, they need to just wait for their turn to park in the lot, or find other available spots at the elementary school on Mill Road and park there.
