Teams Should Fear WHB Volleyball this Year

For the first time in four years, the WHB’s girls varsity volleyball team is heading to playoffs under the guidance of Coach Eric Ferrante.
Coach Eric has been coaching volleyball for about 10 years. He attended Hofstra University and has been playing volleyball since the age of eight. Coach Eric also currently coaches for Club Cali, a club volleyball team. This is Coach Eric’s second year coaching at WHB.
Former coach, Mrs. Reed, is on maternity leave which left the team with no coach. Coach Eric, who had previously coached JV, stepped up to fill the position.
About his move to varsity, Coach Eric said, “It’s been very exciting. I love working on the developmental aspect of the game and working with younger kids. Working with varsity has been a lot of fun in terms of working with offense, in terms of bigger hitters, stronger or more developed athletes, and thinking about the fine tuning parts of the game.”
This season was a successful one for the WHB GVVB team.
“This season has definitely had some challenges, but for the most part, we have accomplished our main goals and have been able to push through most teams,” said Coach Eric.
With a 11-3 record, the girls made it into the playoffs for the first time since seniors, Lauren Goss and Reilly Mahon, joined the team their freshman year.
Mahon said, “It feels awesome to be in the playoffs because our program has reached a new level of play. Every girl on our team deserves this.”
This year the girls had a few fun games. They fundraised for Childhood Cancer, donating the money they raised to Alex’s Lemonade Stand. The girls won the game and raised $500.
The senior game was the perfect way for the team to end the season before playoffs. Between the setting up and decorating to the actual game, the girls got to spend time together before the season came to an end. The team defeated Rocky Point 3-0. Afterwards, all the girls gathered together, had dinner and dessert to celebrate their successful season.
The team will have their first playoff game on Tuesday, October 25th (Location to be announced)
