Jesse AflanoStJohn’s success on the field and in the classroom has opened up doors for Jesse to pursue his dreams at the collegiate level.

Jesse plays football, lacrosse, and football for the Hurricanes, but decided to play lacrosse at the next level. “I decided to play lacrosse instead of football because I feel like I’m better at lacrosse and would be able to play at a much higher level in college by playing lacrosse as opposed to football,” he said.

Stony Brook lacrosse finished the 2018 season a respectable 9-6, and 5-1 in the America East. Stony Brook has quality wins over Albany, Vermont, and UMBC. Stony Brook lost to UMBC in the American East Championship.

When choosing a college, Jesse said he decided on Stony Brook because “I really like the campus and the location, the coaches really made a good impression and they’re very able and the facilities at Stony Brook are very advanced and useful.”

Jesse is a three-sport athlete with big aspirations and an even bigger presence, his twin Jaden.  Jaden has been his biggest competitor but also his biggest supporter. “He’s always pushed me harder and helped me become the athlete that I am today,” said Jesse.

Jesse is not only a person that loves to play sports and getting better as an athlete, but he also cares about his family and they’re the biggest influence on his life.  Jesse lost his mother the first week of school due to complications of a routine surgery.  Before she passed away, Jesse attributes his mother to being his biggest influence in his college decision.

What separates Jesse’s dedication from the rest is his dedication to keep working at his goal and bounce back from this tragic loss. Jesse and Jaden only missed two days and returned to practice with the moral support of his teammates.

We wish Jesse the best of luck at Stony Brook!
