Senior Suraj Patel is off to a great start this wrestling season. At East Hampton’s Frank (Sprig) Gardener Tournament in early December,  he placed first place at the competitive 132 weight class. He was mentally and physically prepared for accomplishing it. He said,” I never felt more happy to wrestle with my team supporting me every step of the way.”

One of Suraj’s coaches that helped him every day after practice and during the off -season was Coach Patrulios. Coach and Suraj worked with each other each day. Patrulios said, “We knew Suraj was capable of winning and were happy to see it happen.” He continued, “Suraj deserved the win because he put in the extra mile out of everyone else.”

One of Suraj’s teammates and drilling partners, freshman Luke Citarelli said Suraj deserved the win. “We were hyping him up all week for the tournament and winning it for him and the team.”

When Suraj was wrestling he never stopped fighting; he never took a break and never slowed down. He shut his opponent down till he didn’t even want to be on the mat.

When Suraj stepped on the mat he knew physically and mentally he was ready to win due to his off-season workouts.  He was confident enough that he was getting first when he stepped off the mat. Suraj said, “Emotionally I improved so much from last year.  I shouldn’t stop here – there’s still more for me to learn and improve on to go far in my season.”

Come check the wrestling team tomorrow, Friday, January 4th against rival Rocky Point.  It is our team’s biggest match of the year.
