By his graduation, WHBHS sophomore Andrew Arcuri will have been a four year varsity goalie for the boys’ lacrosse team and a five year high school athlete playing for the Mount Sinai JV team as an 8th grader.

He has already caught the attention of many Division 1 colleges including Notre Dame, Rutgers, University of Albany, and Stony Brook University. However, he will not be able to commit to any of these schools until September 1, 2018 due to a new rule put in place by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and the Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA). This prohibits college coaches from communicating with prospects until September 1 of their junior year.

Andrew’s father, Craig Arcuri, supports the new rule. He states, “As a parent, I think it needed to be changed. Having 8th graders making such a big decision has left many kids and universities unhappy with their choices.”

Andrew also supports the rule. “I agree with the current rule because it allows all players to mature before making such an important decision.”

According to Craig, Andrew’s “work ethic and competitive attitude” contribute the most to his success.

Andrew hopes to commit to college this fall.
