Being Fed Can Get You to Bed

Sometimes it is difficult for us all to fall asleep. The types of food we eat throughout day and how much and what time we eat can affect our sleep schedule.

Some foods that we eat can affect our sleep in a negative or positive way. A type of food we should eat to help get us a better night’s sleep is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Although that  sounds a bit odd to eat before we go to bed it could actually help us. The peanut butter sandwich is a perfect snack to fend off low blood sugar and still sleep peacefully. Dr. Gray Wenk,  in the article 6 Foods That Can Affect Your Dreams and Sleep, explains , “The bread and the jelly are great sources of simple carbohydrates, which are terrible usually, but great for sleep.”

Not all foods help you fall asleep. Turkey, cheese, steak, chocolate and spicy foods, and dairy products, including cheese and milk, were the most repeated types of food blamed for causing both disturbing and bizarre dreams. Eating steak can make your body work harder to break it down so this raises your body temperature, and your body falls asleep easier if it is at a cooler temperature.  But whether chocolate improves or disrupts your dreams is under some debate. But just to be safe, you might want to limit your chocolate intake before bed. The caffeine in chocolate probably won’t help you fall asleep.

Eating boosts metabolism and raises the body temperature, which can disturb your natural sleep pattern. This is why we should eat a few hours before we go to sleep. Although you maybe be hungry before you go to bed, even eating a little snack can through of the way your body shuts down and prepared for you to fall asleep.
