After a short summer, fall showers us with colorful leaves, cold brisk air and fun autumn activities. What can you do within this breezy, peaceful transition?
During this season many activities are great for family and friends. Go for a hayride at Finks Farm in Wading River. With corn mazes, pony rides, a corn cannon and animals such as roosters, goats, and cattle, you’re sure to be entertained. Ms. Phillips, who recently visited Finks Farm with her daughter for a birthday party, said, “Finks has a huge selection of family fun from pig races to hay rides. We’ll be going back at Christmas to meet Santa!”
In the mood for apple and pumpkin picking? Visit Lewin’s stand in Riverhead for some red delicious apples. Junior KeriAnn Henninger went apple and pumpkin picking last week, and said, “It was great for pictures and for picking fruit and pumpkins.” She recommends you check out their apple cider, pumpkin pies and applesauce!
One of the best things to do in the fall is attend a WHB football game under the Friday night lights. Hurricane Pride cuts through the brisk fall air – a home football game is not to be missed. John La Mura loves “the sense of community and pride at home games.” Be sure to visit the concession stand for treats to support the senior class. (Unfortunately last week was the last home football game – so put this on your to-do list for next fall!)
To handle the transitioning weather from summer to fall, slowly give up your T-shirts, shorts and flip-flops and work in flannels, jeans and boots. Senior Justin Grieco, who usually wears khakis, sweatshirts and flannels, shops at Nike, Calvin Klein, and Tommy Hilfiger Justin said, “I like the fall because you look better wearing a nice jacket opposed to just a shirt.”
With fall comes the spooky walks. The Quogue Wild Life Refuge is having its 20th annual Spooky Walk on Friday October 25th from 6:30 to 9:00 PM. The QWR is located at 3 Old Country Road in Quogue. The cost is $15 per person and reservations are recommended! To reserve a time slot call (631)-653-4771, and visit http://www.QuogueWildlifeRefuge.org for more information.
Before we know it, winter will be here, so enjoy all there is to love about fall while we have it!
