Relay For Life

Relay+For+Life

Cancer is a horrible disease for family and friends to endure and obviously the victim has it even worse. Relay for Life is a way to celebrate life and raise money for the American Cancer Association to help battle cancer.

Relay for Life consists of cancer survivors and caregivers joining together to celebrate the fallen and living lives that cancer has affected. Different teams set up tents or easy-ups, and some sell different items to fundraise for the America Cancer Society. Each year all of the tents are decorated in a theme that the teams agree on at a meeting. Last year the theme was Olympic countries and  this year the theme is the different colors of cancer. The Center Moriches Relay for Life even puts on ‘Center Moriches Idol,’ a singing competition for kids and teens who are given $200 if they win and one free session in a recording studio. Some are nice enough to donate it back to cancer research.

The number of participants worldwide is over 4 million. There are more than 5,000 Relay for Life Events events around the world. Also, there are 23 countries who participate in Relay for Life. The phrase “Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back” is associated with Relay for Life because even in the hard times people still have your back and will help you get through it.

The volunteers at Relay for Life also cater a lunch for the survivors and one caregiver of their choice. Gradually throughout the day luminary bags are placed around the track and at the end of the day. You can decorate and personalize your luminary bag to commemorate a loved one who has cancer and survived or to remember someone who has sadly lost their battle.

Relay for Life will take place Saturday, June 6th, 2015 at Center Moriches High School. The 14th annual relay will start at 12:00 PM on the football field and track.

So, come and join the cancer caregivers and survivors at the Center Moriches High School to raise money for cancer awareness at Relay for Life.
