The WHBHS writing studio is open again after a year of being closed due to Covid. English teachers are available to help students with their writing assignments during periods 3-7 and during extra help. 

Now that the studio is open, students can make an appointment through the writing studios sign up software. There are three appointment slots per period; each appointment is scheduled for 12 minutes. 

The writing studio has been a part of our school since 2015. WHB students are very lucky to have the writing studio there to help. One of the writing studio teachers, Mrs. Luciano sees a lot of increase in writing abilities the more students come in. She said, “By the end of the year common mistakes that students make I do see them making less of or at the very least catching themselves when I point out the mistake.”

Students who have taken advantage of the writing studio go to college more prepared and confident in their writing. According to Mrs. Luciano, “From students who have graduated and attended the Writing Studio regularly, I have been told that they feel more equipped to write in college because of the help they’ve been given in the Writing Studio.”

The different types of writing assignments she gets to help students with might be librarian Mrs. Tunstead’s favorite part of working in the writing studio. “I love the fact that I’m able to work with students on a variety of writing assignments and that it is a different experience each day.”

Students are able to create a relationship with the English teachers and have a safe space to write. Mrs. Luciano said, “I find that over the course of the year I am able to create relationships with students who come in regularly.  For some, sharing their writing is a deeply personal thing.”
