More Than a Math Teacher

More Than a Math Teacher

Kelsey Jordan, Staff Writer

Kristin Kalisak is a math teacher here at Westhampton Beach High School, Mrs. Kalisak is in charge of “Adopt-a-family” here at the high school. Mrs. Kalisak is motivated by her husband and her children. “ I want to be a good role model to my kids” Kalisak adds.

A perfect day in the life of Mrs.Kalisak would consist of relaxing at the beach or going to Sesame Street with her children and her husband. If Mrs. Kalisak could gain any ability in particular it would be to be a great writer. If she had the choice to find out what her future consisted of she would not want to know. “I would want it to be a surprise and I wouldn’t want someone to tell me how my life would go.”

Mrs. Kalisak is in charge of “adopt-a-family.” Adopt-a-family helps bring joy to kids in the community that might not have gifts to open Christmas morning. The program receives many families. “We provide a turkey and all the trimmings for Thanksgiving and Christmas to each family. Community members, school groups, clubs and other organizations help grant wishes by providing toys, clothes, shoes and jackets for families in need,” Says Mrs. Kalisak.

This is Mrs. Kalisak’s 2nd year running adopt-a-family as an organizer but has been helping out since she was about 5 years old. Mrs. Kalisak’s favorite part of adopt-a-family is seeing the kids and how happy they get, and knowing that they appreciate it. “ I love seeing the look on the kids faces and how they faces light up with excitement.” Mrs. Kalisak adds.

Mrs. Kalisak loves her family very much they inspire and motivate her. She enjoys teaching her passion for math, and being the organizer of adopt-a-family.
