Becoming the Best

Becoming+the+Best

WHBHS is notorious for their “Best Ofs” competition. Whether it is Best Friends, Best Eyes, Best Laugh, etc., it is an exciting time of the year when seniors are able to vote on whom they believe is the best of the best!

It is always a good feeling when you win something you are passionate about. Bridget Pamboris, who won Best Dressed, said, “I’m happy that people appreciate and think I have good style. If I get a new piece of clothing I think of all different outfits I could make and get excited to wear it. “

If you might think that becoming the “Best Of” something is stressful, you are wrong! Bridget said, “I don’t feel I have to dress a certain way. I just dress the way I feel.” Clearly since everyone liked it before, she shouldn’t change it.

High school is a time of wanting to impress others. By impressing others you are able to become the “Best Of” a category. It is an emotional time if you win or lose. Many people who didn’t receive an award were hurt but happy for their fellow students.

The entire senior class has the option to vote on who they believe deserves the award in each category. The Yearbook Club then collects all the votes and tallies for the official winners. When someone gets voted in more than one category, the runner up will take his or her spot.

Mrs. Gordon, the Adviser of the Yearbook Club, said, “This has been a tradition since probably the ‘60s, but possibly earlier.” The only drama she has ever encountered over the “Best Ofs” is some people feel as though others cheat, like the other nominees tell people to vote for them. But as Mrs. Gordon said, “Kids know if they are the best at something. They should be happy with who you are. You don’t need a title to make something official.” Congratulations to all of the winners and to everyone else who is the best at something!
