The Hurricane football team’s 2-5 record (at press time) reflects the many injuries they have been affected by this season.
The loss of many vital players this season for the Hurricanes has crushed their high preseason expectations. In the Hurricanes’ season opener, starting quarterback Jake Calloway suffered a season ending injury. This resulted in receiver and safety Patrick Fay moving to the quarterback position.
Calloway suffered a partially torn labrum. Currently, he is rehabbing his shoulder with our athletic trainer. Jake said, “I’m pretty upset being out for so long, but I’m super excited to get back and help out the Canes this lacrosse season.”
Another hidden struggle for the team was that many of the players came down with an illness that no doctor could diagnose. This affected the team’s performance. Players had a high fever, headaches, inflamed appendixes, rib pain and shortness of breath. Luckily it only lasted for a couple of weeks.
Senior Antonio Washington has a high ankle sprain. He said, “I didn’t protect myself from getting tackled.” He was out for almost 12 weeks. He is just coming out of his injury now and starting practice again this week.
Hopefully without the illnesses and injuries the team can reach their full potential and get a home playoff game.
